As the leading DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K Blu-ray backup solution provider, DVDFab has been one of the most popular vendors in this field for almost two decades now.
Despite having over 120 million users in more than 200 countries worldwide, not all of them may have a clear idea of DVDFab’s entire development history, only those diehard fans since startup might have heard of DVDFab Platinum.
So, in this article, we will explain in detail what is DVDFab Platinum, does DVDFab Platinum still work, can you still download DVDFab Platinum, among other questions. Do read on for more details if you are interested.
Technically, the term DVDFab Platinum dated back to DVDFab ver. 3 to ver. 5. Here below is the detailed history of every major version of DVDFab that used to take the name of DVDFab Platinum.
The 1st major version taking the name of DVDFab Platinum is ver. 3 that was released back in 2006, almost 15 years ago. At that time, DVDFab Platinum only had two backup modules, namely, DVD to DVD, and DVD to Mobile, respectively.
The DVD to DVD option only had 5 backup modes, and they were Full Disc, Main Movie, Split, Customize, and Clone; the DVD to Mobile option contained only three conversion profiles, and they were Generic, iPod, PSP.
Succeeding ver.3, ver. 4.x came out late 2007, the term DVDFab Platinum was continued. DVDFab Platinum 4.x still contained only the DVD to DVD and the DVD to Mobile backup modules.
The difference was that two more backup modes were added to the DVD to DVD module, Merge and Write Data; and three more conversion profiles were added to the DVD to Mobile module, CellPhone, PVP, PDA.
Released in mid-2008, Ver. 5 was the last major DVDFab version carrying the name of DVDFab Platinum. Ver. 5 still contained the DVD to DVD and the DVD to Mobile modules.
But this time, only one more backup mode was added to the DVD to DVD module, that was the Customize Split; but four more conversion profiles were added: Xbox 360, NDS, Zune, PS3.
Starting from ver. 6 and onward, the term Platinum was removed from the official name, leaving only the DVDFab term, affixed by the specific version number. Also, two more modules were added since ver. 6, they were Blu-ray to Blu-ray module and File to Mobile module.
As mentioned above, DVDFab Platinum had long been discontinued since ver. 6, but this does not mean that the old versions of DVDFab Platinum 3.x to 5.x had cased working.
Technically speaking, if users still have those older versions installed on their computers, they should be able to continue using the version even today.
The only difference is that with the older versions, users will only be able to handle some very old DVD discs that were released around that time period, new discs with new copy protections shall fail on DVDFab Platinum.
That being said, if users want to copy the new DVD discs today, they will need to upgrade DVDFab Platinum 3.x, Platinum 4.x, or Platinum 5.x to the latest DVDFab 12.
The upgrade is totally free of charge, because unlike today’s DVDFab 12 which has monthly, annual and lifetime subscriptions, DVDFab Platinum 3.x/4.x/5.x only had lifetime licenses back then.
This means, users who purchased either of those three older versions of DVDFab are granted lifetime free upgrades as long as DVDFab software still exist.
The only difference is that even they upgrade to the latest version of DVDFab 12, they still can only use the two modules when they purchased DVDFab Platinum 3.x/4.x/5.x in the first place. So, what are those two modules called in today’s DVDFab 12?
Move on to the next section.
As mentioned above, users who still have DVDFab Platinum 3.x/4.x/5.x installed on their computers, they can upgrade their DVDFab Platinum to the latest version of DVDFab 12. As explained previously, the upgrade is totally free.
After upgrade, the DVD to DVD module in the DVDFab Platinum will be replaced by the DVD Copy module in DVDFab 12. Similarly, the DVD to Mobile module will be converted to the DVD Ripper module as well. Compared to the older versions, there are tons of advantages of the latest version.
Unfortunately, the old activation keys or licenses of DVDFab Platinum won’t work on the present versions of DVDFab 12. Because that old way of activating DVDFab software has long been replaced by the most advanced online verification approach.
So, what do I have to do if the old license fails to activate DVDFab 12 after I made the upgrade? Don’t panic, there is a solution to that matter.
After that, you are all set! Just feel free to enjoy the modern time DVDFab 12, and all the future versions down the road.
Suppose I don’t want to use the newer version but still want the DVDFab Platinum back, can I still download it from anywhere, if I accidentally remove it from my computer, or my computer is recovered from a serious crash problem?
Well, officially, DVDFab Software does not offer download links to those ancient DVDFab versions older than ver. 10, which of course include DVDFab Platinum 3.x to 5.x. So, no, you cannot download those older versions from DVDFab’s official website.
However, there are some other websites still hosting some very old versions of DVDFab, including DVDFab Platinum. Simply Google the term, you can find hundreds of entries regarding DVDFab Platinum 3.1.5.0, DVDFab Platinum v5.2.3.2, DVDFab Platinum 8.0.8.5 final, DVDFab 5 Platinum download, and many more.
But, downloading from those unknown websites is not recommended:
Well, if you do want some of the history versions of DVDFab software, there is an official way of getting them legitimately. But keep in mind, this still does not include DVDFab Platinum versions.
Available only in DVDFab Member Center, there is a special service called Extended Download Service, which offers official download links to some of the history versions of DVDFab, both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions, along with other products.
This is the only legitimate way to download some older versions of DVDFab products that are safe from any potential risks. But this Extended Download Service will cost you an extra $9.9 if you are not a DVDFab 365 member.
DVDFab Platinum refers to three very old versions of DVDFab Platinum 3.x, 4.x and 5.x, which have long been discontinued for many years. The most recent major version of DVDFab is DVDFab 12. Existing users of DVDFab Platinum can upgrade to the latest DVDFab 12 totally for free, but will only have the DVD Copy and DVD Ripper modules.
There is no way to get the official installers of DVDFab Platinum as they are no longer being offered by DVDFab Software. So, don’t ever trust any website offering download links to DVDFab Platinum. It is highly recommended to upgrade to the latest DVDFab 12 for free.
